Year 9 Girls Triumph at Girls in Engineering Day at Oundle School!

Victory for Our Future Engineers!
We are incredibly proud to share that a team of nine talented Year 9 students has returned victorious from the Girls in Engineering Day at Oundle School, held on 23 June in celebration of International Women in Engineering Day.
The event brought together schools from across the Peterborough area – including Oundle School, Queen Katharine Academy, and UTC – for a day of exciting, hands-on STEM challenges designed to inspire the next generation of female engineers.
A Day of Innovation and Teamwork
Our students shone in every challenge, demonstrating creativity, collaboration, and technical skill. Highlights of the day included:
- 🪑 Cardboard Chair Challenge – Teams designed and built fully functional chairs using only cardboard, showcasing their structural engineering knowledge and ingenuity.
- 🌉 Leonardo Bridge Build – Using only wooden planks and teamwork, one of our teams set a new event record for the fastest bridge assembly!
- 🤖 Robotics Coding Task – Both teams successfully programmed robots to collect hydrogen fuel cells, demonstrating excellent problem-solving and coding skills.
- 🚀 Rocket Launch – The girls’ rocket, affectionately named Bill, soared the furthest of all entries, earning cheers from the crowd and judges alike.
A Well-Deserved Win
Their outstanding performance earned them the top prize – a trophy created using a 3D printer, symbolising the modern engineering world they embraced so confidently throughout the day.
Miss Parker, who accompanied the students, shared her pride:
"I was so proud of all the girls – they were a credit to the school in every way. Their teamwork, enthusiasm, and determination were inspiring to watch."
Inspiring the Future
This achievement is more than just a win – it’s a celebration of the potential and promise of young women in STEM. These students have not only represented our school with excellence but have also become role models for future engineers.
Congratulations to our Year 9 stars – we can’t wait to see what you’ll achieve next!
