Immediate Remote Education
What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
Any pupil who is absent from school can access the content of the lessons they are missing. This might be due to a full or partial closure due to a case of Covid-19 or a period of self-isolation due to a pupil, or someone in their household having symptoms or testing positive.
A pupil’s first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching.
Immediate remote education is shared on Microsoft Teams within the Year group team. The Year group team is updated by the Head of Year. Academic Heads of Faculty post remote learning for pupils in this group which is aligned to the work pupils in school will be doing. Curriculum plans have been developed by Faculty teams to include immediate independent remote education to run parallel to content covered within the normal planned curriculum.
Pupils are also able to contact their Class Teacher via Microsoft Teams or school email.
Pupils without access to internet are identified by Heads of Year and work packs are collated by Pastoral teams. Heads of Year liaise with Heads of Faculty to ensure work provided for students is in line with current lesson content.
In addition to this, please see below our list of home learning websites that your child can access.
How do I access Home Learning?
Please find attachments below for guides on how to access home learning and use Teams. During bubble closures or in the event of a National Lockdown live lessons will be hosted during the normal school working day via Microsoft Teams. Please see Remote Learning Hub tab.
Who can I contact for help with Home Learning?
Contacts for each year team can be found on the links to each year team on the right. If a pupil needs specific help with their work for Academic subjects they should contact their class teacher via the school email system or the appropriate Head of Faculty.
What do I need to be able to access Home Learning?
All live lessons are hosted through Microsoft Teams. Please see the guide below for support with this. Your child will be able to access the work online using a laptop, tablet or smart phone.
In the event of a full or partial closure, we also plan to lend out devices for those that are struggling to access the online material. We have conducted an audit with pupils of what devices they have access to at home. Your child's Head of Year will contact you with further details about device loans if and when this is required.
How does my child access live lessons?
In the event of a full or partial closure, teachers will deliver live lessons over Teams.
These will follow the normal timetable for the week at the usual times that lessons take place in school. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee live lesson access for individual pupils that are self-isolating, but we will make the lesson resources available.
When logging into a live lesson, pupils will have to wait in the 'lobby' until they are admitted to the meeting by their Teacher. Ideally, pupils will mute their microphone when entering the lesson and will use the 'hands up' function if they would like to speak or ask a question. Pupils should join with their cameras off.
